December 2011

I usually alphabetize, but this month they are in the order I read them.  Does it matter?

  1. The Language of Flowers, Vanessa Diffenbaugh.  What happens when you age out of foster care?  Her gift for flowers helps her find a place in the world.  Loved this book.  I wanted to have my own box of flower cards.
  2. The Marriage Plot, Jeffrey Eugenides.  The boring plot.  I'm writing this 3 weeks later and I can't remember what it was about.
  3. I Am Half-Sick of Shadows, Alan Bradley.  A Flavia DeLuce Christmas story.  So there's death and poison.
  4. Mr. Fox, Helen Oyeyemi.  After starting this book 4 times, I finally gave up.  Just couldn't get into it.
  5. Sybil Exposed, Debbie Nathan.   WTF???  Sybil was a fraud.  Blame the psychiatrist.
  6. God If You're Not Up There I'm F*cked, Darrell Hammond.  His voices started out as an escape.
  7. The Drop, Michael Connelly.  Harry Bosch on the edge of retirement?  Bosh!
  8. The Scottish Prisoner, Diana Gabaldon.  Jamie figures prominently in this, to tide us over till the next Outlander book.
  9. The Sisters, Nancy Jensen.  Tragedy and miscommunication separate two sisters.  I would have liked a resolution in the end.
  10. Neuromancer, William Gibson.  On the top 100 Sci Fi Fantasy list, but it was a little too cyber tech for me.  Plus the first 6 pages were missing, actually sliced out of the library book.
  11. A Summer in Europe, Marilyn Brandt.  Again, good reviews, but too wordy for me.
  12. The Hidden Child, Camilla Läckberg.  So much mystery in her little town of  Fjällbacka.  I'd love to visit there.
  13. 11/22/63, Stephen King.  One of his best!
  14. Breakfast at Tiffany's, Truman Capote.  Plus 3 other short stories.
  15. Amigoland, Oscar Casares.  Elderly estranged brothers travel to Mexico to trace a family legend.
  16. Anyone but You, Jennifer Crusie.  Quick chick lit e-book library read.  It gets 4 stars on Amazon but I wasn't that impressed.  The sex with a younger man was hawt but the dithering about the age difference was nawt.

So Neuromancer (also too Sci-Fy for me) was the one with missing pages. I'm with you, why would anyone do that to a library book?
